New Exhibit Features Artworks by Ebell Members

Works by (left to right) Yeni Alvarez DeCarlo, Lorraine Spector, and Laura Foti Cohen are among those featured in a new exhibit of art by Ebell members, now on display at the club.

An eclectic exhibit of art by members of the Ebell of Los Angeles opened Thursday at the clubhouse at Wilshire and Lucerne.

Sixteen artists are showing more than 60 individual pieces, ranging from paintings of acrylic, oil and watercolor to artworks made from flower petals, yarn and newspaper headlines.

Lorraine Spector’s “Wild and Wooley” features crocheted hexagons sewn onto a canvas and hung from a walking stick. She plans to donate the piece to Jewish Family Services’ transitional housing, but many of the other works in the exhibit are for sale.

Pat C. Kent is exhibiting three large-scale photographs of Martha’s Vineyard, transferred onto canvas. Yeni Alvarez DeCarlo is showing nine paintings in acrylic, oil and mixed media.

Mikki Brisk’s large painting “Venezia” joined her eight smaller paintings, all oil on canvas, in a corner of the Art Salon. Carolin Wild is exhibiting four acrylic-on-canvas landscapes.

Laura Foti Cohen’s collage “It’s Been a Year of This?” takes its name from one of its dozens of headlines and illustrations documenting the first chaotic year of the Trump presidency. (Cohen is also the Buzz’s new theater critic.)

Suz Landay perfectly captured three botanicals in watercolor and graphite.

And finally, architect and photographer Caroline Labiner Moser has contributed six photos of Manhattan.

The exhibit will remain up through July 6th and is open to the public during business hours. Street parking on Lucerne, or in the Ebell lot across Lucerne from the clubhouse, is usually plentiful during the day.
