It’s official:  Pinches Tacos has left Larchmont. The sign on the door invited customers to visit the vendor’s other locations in the Sunset Strip, Santa Monica Place, Culver City and Westwood.

Last month, the Buzz reported that Pinches had listed its space for lease as a take-out only, because it was unable to have any seating in the storefront.  (The “Q” Conditions on Larchmont restrict the number of sit-down restaurants, and right from the start Pinches Tacos ran into trouble finding a legal way to have seating.) A new tenant will take over their space, no word as to who it will be yet.

“We have always loved Larchmont Village and when we find the right space, we will absolutely come back,” Miguel Anaya told the Buzz in an email.

Leaving Larchmont was the right business decision for Pinches Tacos and we wish the owners well. It’s a loss for the neighborhood and their fans. Thankfully, there are other Pinches Tacos, so you can support them in other neighborhoods around the city.

Across the street,  at 216 N Larchmont Blvd., M·A·C Cosmetics is getting ready to open in the former Crumbs Bakery space. According to the Larchmont Chronicle, this newest retailer on the street will open on Friday, May 12.

M·A·C which stands for Make-Up Art Cosmetics, was funded in Toronto, Canada by makeup artist and photographer Frank Toskan and salon owner Frank Angelo, who became frustrated by the lack of makeup that photographed well.  So they decided to create their own.  At first, they made the cosmetics in their kitchen and sold them straight from the salon to fellow makeup artists, as well as models and photographers. Soon, stylists and fashion editors got in on the action. As the magazine credits racked up and word-of-mouth popularity grew, the duo launched M·A·C retail sales in March, 1984, from a counter in a Toronto department store, according to the company’s website.

The company has been part of the Estée Lauder Companies since 1994; M·A·C is sold in more than 120 countries around the world. There are more than 60 stores in the LA area.

  1. So disappointed to see Pinches leave Larchmont. It was one of the few affordable food outlets that wasn’t part of a big corporate chain. Meanwhile, the scofflaw Larchmont Bungalow continues to pack them in and defy multiple lawsuits. If it wasn’t for the Sunday Farmer’s Market and Chevalier’s Books, I feel priced out of most of Larchmont’s offerings these days.
