Planning meetings for new R1 single-family sub-zones in Brookside and Sycamore Square will now both be held on November 14th.
The initial informational meetings on new proposed R1 Single Family Zones for Brookside and Sycamore Square, previously scheduled for two different dates, will now be combined into one meeting on November 14, with separate presentations on for each of the two neighborhoods. (Originally, the Brookside meeting was to be held on Nov. 14, while the Sycamore Square meeting was scheduled for Dec. 5. The December meeting has now been cancelled.)
“We have decided to combine the meetings for a number of reasons,” wrote Cheryl Getuiza, Public Information Officer at the Department of Planning. According to Getuiza, combining the meetings will allow the department to schedule the additional formal public hearings that will eventually be required prior to the expiration of the ICO in mid-2018.
“It had also come to our attention that a significant number of Sycamore Square residents planned on attending the informational meeting for Brookside. Finally, the borders of the two communities back up to one another,” wrote Getuiza.
The single meeting for both the Brookside and Sycamore Square neighborhoods will be held on November 14 at Pan Pacific Park, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
The flier below shows details of the proposed new R1R3-RG zone for single-family properties in the two neighborhoods. It would specify limits for the scale of new homes, as well as require that building mass be centered at the back of the house, and garages placed at the rear of the property, to match the existing architectural patterns in these historic areas. It is the same zoning designation recently adopted by the La Brea-Hancock and Larchmont Village neighborhoods. (Note: parcels in Sycamore Square with R2 and R3 multi-family zoning will not be affected by the new R1 zone.)
