Prevent Runaway Trash Bins in Rainy Weather – Move Away from Curb

LA Sanitation reminds residents to keep trash bins out of curbs and gutters to prevent runaway bins. ( photo courtesy of LA Santiation.com)

Now that the rain has really started to fall, the City reminded residents to keep trash bins away from the curb and gutter and place them farther into the street.  This will prevent them from being swept away by fast running rain water.  A notice posted on Nextdoor.com by the LA Sanitation reminded residents of other rainy day preparations.

Please be sure to place your bins away from the curb/gutter to help prevent runaway bins. It also helps to bring in your bins as soon as possible after collection because the rain can easily carry away the empty ones. LA Sanitation proactively cleans stormdrains and catch basins year-round to help prevent flooding.

Here’s a sneak peak of our crews in action! We also offer free sand and sand bags at our Lopez Canyon Environmental Education Center at 11950 Lopez Canyon Road in Sylmar. Please bring your own shovel and help yourself.

If you experience flooding of the streets in your neighborhood or if you know of a storm drain or catch basin that needs to be cleaned, please call our 24-hour Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489. To those in the burn areas being evacuated, our thoughts are with you!
