A few big items in local restaurant news this week:
Sweetfin Poké, recently named one of Eater LA’s “15 Essential Santa Monica Restaurants” is coming to Larchmont. As announced in Restaurant News a few days ago, and confirmed by the company to the Buzz this morning, the hot new eatery, which has “a menu based on the style of healthful raw fish bowls found on virtually every street corner in Hawaii,” will be taking over the space at 135 N. Larchmont Blvd., where long-time tenant Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf recently announced its impending exit. Sweetfin Poké is scheduled to open in May.
Chef Ludo Lefebvre announced on his Facebook page this morning that the “Big Mec” burger at his Petit Trois restaurant has been named the Best Burger in the country by Eater, the national online restaurant and food blog (and parent to local EaterLA), in its annual Best of the Best column. Congratulations to a local favorite. We’re guessing the already popular spot just got a bit more so.
Finally, as every other news outlet in town has been bubbling about all week, actor Danny Trejo’s much-anticipated Trejo’s Tacos will be open any minute at La Brea and Sycamore (former location of a long closed, little lamented, now heavily and handsomely remodeled Taco Bell). The menu will include vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a social conscience – any leftovers at the end of the day will be donated to a homeless shelter.
