Saving Water: A Water-Wise Garden

When her clients asked for a more water-wise garden, Judy M. Horton obliged by replacing the lawn with a grove of sycamore trees and creating a tapestry of low-growing drought tolerant plants that provide interest and structure to their formerly vast expanse of lawn.  The garden she created for Donivee and Merrill Nash was recently published in Martha Stewart Living Magazine.

Horton grew up in Windsor Square and lived here for many years, though she now lives in nearby Beachwood Canyon. Always on the look out for fabulous plants that add texture and color to each site, Horton has designed a number of  highly regarded gardens in the neighborhood. Horton is also deeply concerned about sustainable landscape design that replaces the lawn with appropriate plant palette for our historic park-like neighborhoods. Look for her suggestions in the continuing Buzz series on planting the parkways.
