The South Coast Air Quality Management District announced yesterday that its annual “Check Before You Burn” season has officially begun, and will continue through February 28, 2017.
According to the SCAQMD, Check Before You Burn is designed to protect public health and reduce wintertime fine particle pollution in our region by prohibiting residents from burning wood or other solid fuels in their fireplaces – both indoors and outdoors — on days when air quality is predicted to be poor. The restriction applies to all residents of non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and all of Orange county. A ‘No-Burn Alert’ will be issued by SCAQMD one day in advance of any no-burn day that is declared.
