Surfas Culinary District Soft Re-Opens in West Adams Area

The new Surfas Culinary District warehouse store and cafe at 3225 W. Washington Blvd. in West Adams.

Although it was in Culver City, not Larchmont, the old Surfas Culinary District kitchen warehouse store and cafe had a lot of fans in our area, and we know many of them were very sad when the store closed last year to make way for a new development at its old location.  But as of today, Surfas fans can emerge from mourning, because the store’s new location at 3225 W. Washington Blvd. (the NW corner of Washington and 3rd Ave., one block west of Arlington), in the West Adams area, has just soft-opened.

While the new store is not yet fully stocked, and food items are not yet available (including a deli counter with charcouterie products and “grab and go” sandwiches and salads), the doors are open and shoppers are welcome to come and explore.  Business hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, starting today, and there’s a small parking lot behind the store.

According to manager Vanessa Casares, the new location is about the same physical size as the old location, and there’s a lot to look forward to as soon as the city finishes processing some final paperwork.  In addition to food items, that will include a spacious new test kitchen for demonstrations and cooking classes.  After everything is in place, in just a few weeks, Casares told the Buzz, there will also be a huge grand opening celebration.

For those who can’t wait until then, however, you are welcome to visit now and see how it’s all taking shape.  They’re also holding a very cute little sale, celebrating the store’s 1937 origins with a number of small items priced at just $.37 each.  (We walked out with some adorable little bowls, and some handy trays.)

Welcome back, Surfas!
