Vintage Beverly Blvd. Gas Station to Become Full Service Coffee

The last time we wrote about the cute little 1940s vintage gas/service station at Beverly and Hobart Blvds., it was doing temporary duty as a rather colorful Christmas Tree lot.  But Curbed LA reported yesterday that it will soon have a more permanent tenant – a new business called Full Service Coffee, which will operate a “coffee stand with take out service” at the location. (The concept is pretty similar to the Starbucks in the restored Gilmore (and, later, Texaco) gas station at Highland and Fountain, which has been open for a couple of years now.)

According to the Curbed story, “The streamline moderne-style Whittier’s Texaco Station, located at 4450 West Beverly Boulevard, on the edge of Koreatown, was built in 1941. It was one of three gas stations around that intersection where drivers fueled up as the city boomed through the mid-1960s.” And Full Service Coffee co-founder Edoardo Chavarin has promised that “the iconic 1940s Texaco Station will be celebrated and preserved to its original aesthetic as much as possible.”

While Full Service’s Facebook page originally promised a June debut, however, Curbed reports that “the opening has been delayed until this fall. It was just in June that it obtained permits from the department of building and safety to change the site’s use from a gas station to a coffee shop and to build a bathroom in the old lubrication building.”  Full Service’s website also indicates that it is currently hiring.
