Wilshire Division of the Los Angeles Police Department has published new crime maps coded to show recent crimes that have been reported by neighborhood by Senior Lead Officers. As Senior Lead Office Dave Cordova has explained many times at community meetings, LAPD resources are directed to where the data shows the greatest need, so it’s important that crimes are reported.

On Wednesday evening at the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council’s monthly meeting, Cordova reported that LAPD had arrested a burglary suspect on the 900 block of S. Mansfield, who appears to have been responsible for 15 or more burglaries in the area. The suspect was caught when he tried to remove a portable air conditioning unit from a window to enter a home where the residents were asleep upstairs. The residents heard him and called 911. Police were nearby, arrived almost instantly and took the suspect into custody.  He was still being held by police as of Wednesday night.

Earlier this week, SSA Security reported that it assisted LAPD with an arrest of a suspect vandalizing a traffic utility box near Highland Avenue and Third Street.

“On 5/8/17 at 12:25AM, our SSA Officer was patrolling south on Highland nearing 3rd Street,” said SSA CEO Jerry Shaw in a note to local neighbors. “He observed a male Hispanic with a shaved head in what appeared to be “full gang attire”, vandalizing (tagging/graffiti) of traffic utility box on the Southeast Corner of 3rd and Highland.

“The suspect was so involved in the graffiti he failed to notice our SSA car. The SSA officer had observed an LAPD unit approximately 2 blocks west of the incident location on 3rd. He quickly made contact with the LAPD patrol unit (7A33) and had them follow him to where the suspect was applying his street art. Both SSA and LAPD took the suspect into custody and he was booked for Vandalism.”
