Last Sunday, a woman was confronted by two suspects who entered her home through a side window in the 1000 block of Lucerne Blvd in Windsor Village in what seems like a home burglary gone awry.
The incident occurred around 11 am, Sunday, July 16 when the homeowner, left her house. Her adult daughter, also a resident in the home, heard the sound of someone in the home and was confronted by two male blacks between the ages of 20-30 years old. One of the suspects had a gun which was used to hit her multiple times in the face and head. Â She was ordered to be quiet while the suspects searched the home for valuables. The victim told police she heard the sound of another person on a walkie-talkie or cell phone apparently telling the two suspects what to do. According to police, only jewelry was taken. Thankfully, the victim was not further harmed.
One of the suspects was described as a black male with black hair, unknown color of eyes, 5’8″ 140 lbs, between 20-30 years old wearing a black hooded sweater, dark jeans and grey gloves. The other was described as black male with black hair, unknown color of eyes, 6″ 140 lbs, between 20-30 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white pants and green boxers.
“This is very unfortunate,” said Officer Hebel Rodriguez, LAPD Senior Lead Officer covering Windsor Village area, “but it’s the first one in over a year in the neighborhood. Residents should keep in mind their neighborhood is still a very safe part of the city.”
However, Rodriguez told the Buzz these incidents also serve as a reminder to everyone they need to “harden the target” — meaning take steps to create barriers to avoid becoming a victim of a crime. Â To prevent someone from breaking into your homes, Rodriguez urges everyone to get an alarm system and turn it on. He also recommends getting a surveillance camera with a motion sensor that will notify you by phone if someone has broken into your home.
To avoid being a victim of a personal crime, Rodriquez said it’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. When leaving your residence, check to see if there’s someone hanging around your house or your neighbor’s and report anything that’s suspicious.
A few months ago there was a robbery on Lucerne when the homeowner was in his driveway on/near the same block. A gun was also involved. Thefts along that street are rampant.

As a former neighbor (K-town) & employed as a mid-level manager in the area; The number of terrible, home invasion burglaries in broad daylight & vicious robberies that have occurred far too frequent in the past decades are capable of being reduced with a greater number of police cruisers patrolling these streets during the day! Private security companies are not enough…if Councilman needs me I’m available to assist him with fixing this problem!
