Art Gallery Sits Atop Antique Hardware

I’ve been dropping in at Liz’s Antique Hardware on LaBrea for many years now, to buy the random distressed door knob, gnarly sconce, or hard-to-find bathroom faucet handle. I love pawing through the tarnished pieces, looking at all the old wonderful designs and craftsmanship of things made years ago that still hold their beauty and functionality (and fetch a fine price now!) It’s no wonder then, with all the million or so pieces glittering before me, that I never even noticed the arrows on the floor winding back through the store to the stairway leading to what I like to think of as the Hidden Gallery, but is actually called The Loft at Liz’s.

The light and airy space, once the loft home of owner Liz Gordon, is currently showing an exhibit of 12 artists working in the theme The Four Seasons of Flora + Spice.   Designed to explore the seasons and nature, the show exhibits one or two pieces per artist and includes paintings, prints, photographs and sculpture.  The exhibit was curated by Liz Gordon and Charity Burnett of Sangria Fine Arts.

A separate side room is a piece of wild abandon of live garden cuttings that Liz herself cut from her home garden, and arranged in an organized chaos of limbs and leaves and cuttings.

The Loft at Liz’s will have an Artist Panel Discussion this Saturday, June 16, 1:30-3 pm with four of the artists. Cuttings from the garden will be given away to guest. Stay tuned for the next exhibit at the Loft at Liz’s, Diverted Destructions which will open over a  2-day event, June 30 (7-10pm)  and July 1st (1-5 pm.)
