Robert Burns Park is really a lovely little park. Thanks to the efforts of local champions like Margie Hudson and the Windsor Square Association, the park has been renewed and it’s a nice place to spend some time working out, watching the little ones on the play equipment or walking the dogs on the hard-sand path that traverses the west side of the park. For me, the early morning hours are what it’s all about – it’s quiet and the light is perfect. Very zen.
Speaking of zen…we don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there’s a free yoga group that meets in the park every day at 10a. The sessions were started back in 2010 by brand new instructor Bob Vaughan Wheeler upon graduation from teacher training at Yoga Works. In the two years that have passed, Bob has organized a team of about 10 teachers who share the load of teaching these donation based classes. Teachers have graduated from Yoga Works, City Yoga and Black Dog Yoga. The teaching styles vary, but all fall under Hatha Yoga which combines heating and strengthening poses with cooling and relaxing poses.
As in most yoga classes, everyone is welcome no matter what level, age or body type. Yoga’s great for everyone and different leveled practitioners can practice side by side with both getting a great yoga workout!
