St. Brendan School Taps a Passion For Track and Field

A group of interested parents at St. Brendan School came together this Spring in support of the first ever Track and Field Team at the school. Parents Roger Stewart, Heather Williams, Ruve & Neal McDonough, Margaret Jacquemin and Vera Borges joined forces to offer a track team for grades 1-8 in St. Brendan’s after-school athletic season. And to their great surprise, over 85 student athletes joined the team!

St. Brendan hosted their first Track and Field meet at Loyola High School on April 5th – competing in a tri-meet against neighborhood friendly-rival Christ the King and Hollywood’s Blessed Sacrament.  Support for the athletes came from all sectors of the community – the families of athletes and the greater school community for each of the three schools turned out in force.

Heather Williams, a St. Brendan parent/coach, noted “what I loved about the meet was that so many children had an opportunity to shine and everyone got to participate”. The meet included relays, sprints, mid distance, long jump and shot put. St. Brendan School finished the day with an overall Gold Medal win.

This sounds like a perfect way to keep a maximum number of kids active and involved in sports throughout the pre-High School years.  Plus, the parents at St. Brendan School finally discovered a way to get the kids in bed by eight o’clock!

Enjoy these pics…it looks like an exciting afternoon. We love the determination in the faces of these future track stars.
