Sycamore Square Block Party and Elections

This past Sunday, August 26, the Sycamore Square Neighborhood Association held its annual block party and Annual Meeting on the 800 block of S. Orange Drive. City Council Field Deputy Ben Seinfeld provided residents with updates on projects such as the BRE development at Wilshire and La Brea, the upcoming repaving of Wilshire Blvd. and the repaving of Sycamore Square’s residential streets (which, sadly – because of CD4 redistricting changes and funding reallocations – won’t happen this year as originally planned).

LAPD Senior Lead Officer Perry Jones provided information on local crime issues and crime prevention tips, and Wilshire Crest Elementary School teacher (and Sycamore Square resident) Eileen Washington gave an enthusiastic presentation on the school’s SRLDP preschool program. (The program needs another six students to meet its enrollment targets for this year – if you have a child who will be four years of age by December 2, and are still searching for a preschool, contact the school at (323) 938-5291. The program is free of charge and runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes a day, Monday through Thursday.)

The business meeting also included election of SSNA board members for the coming year. The new board members are:

Sue Horwitz (Orange Drive)
Ann Eggleston (Orange Drive)
Steve Cunningham (Orange Drive)
Lisa Kors (Mansfield Ave.)
David Ramos (Mansfield Ave.)
Moshe Friedman (Citrus Ave.)
Liz Nankin (Citrus Ave.)

After the meeting, residents enjoyed a potluck lunch and a raffle with prizes donated by neighborhood merchants, including Apollonia’s Pizzeria, Little Bar, Rascal, Urban Florist, Muse on 8th, Doggie Goddess Daycare, PetJoy Pet Grooming, Mathnasium, A+ Math Club, Starbucks and many others.
