The 13th annual City of Los Angeles Triathlon takes place this Sunday, September 29, 2013. Traffic along area roads will be impacted.
In order to secure the cycle and run courses, street closures by the Department of Transportation will begin as early as 3:30am. The cycle and run portion of the triathlon will be managed in 3 sectors as shown on the map above. Sectors will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. Estimated reopening times for the sectors are included on the map.
The bike route runs from the beach east along Venice Boulevard, to Fairfax where bikers head north. The course continues east along Olympic and rolls to downtown. Once participants get to downtown, they’ll finish the triathlon with a run.
There will be NO CROSSING POINTS this year, cross traffic will be minimal and only before the event at key major intersections. Access from our area to the south will be severely limited. Sector closure times are:
- Sector 1 | Closed from 6:50a -11:15a – Beach, east along Venice to Fairfax. North on Fairfax to Olympic.Â
- Sector 2 | Closed from 7:10a – 12:15p – Fairfax and Olympic, east on Olympic to Downtown.
- Sector 3 | Closed from 7:30a – 1:30p – Area bordered by 1st Street to 12th Street; Figueroa to Olive.
It is advised that motorists avoid the areas affected by the event, if at all possible.Â
The Department of Transportation will be aggressively enforcing all temporary-parking restrictions for this event to secure the safety of the participants and to facilitate the movement of traffic around road closures. Typical costs for towed vehicles, approximately $220 to $245, include the citation and impound recovery fees to release the vehicle from the towing company.
Unfortunately, the Department of Transportation does not have sufficient staff or resources to provide individualized travel and parking information. If you have a question or concern regarding an issue posing a significant hardship please call (323) 224-6556.

Not good! Head out to 101 (with everyone else). This one seems to sneak up on people. Not publicized enough.
