Free Shakespeare in Griffith Park Begins this Weekend

Independent-Shakespeare-Company

It officially feels like summer when you pull out the picnic basket and bottle of wine and head to Griffith Park’s Old Zoo for the Independent Shakespeare Company‘s (ISC) free Shakespeare in the park program, which begins this weekend and runs every weekend, Thursday through Sunday nights, at 7pm.

On slate this  season, “Twelfth Night” begins tonight and runs through July 20th, followed by “The Taming of the Shrew” from July 24- August 31. Expect great performances in new productions of both shows and some fine pre-show picnicking on the grass with musical entertainment. On many evenings ISC also offers pre-show workshops for families to better understand the performance about to take place. Regular fans with children also know that it’s a great idea to read a synopsis of the play (find one easily online) before attending so as to get the most out of the experience. And don’t forget a warm jacket, and a low-rise beach chair if you tire easily from sitting cross legged on the ground.

For the full calendar and directions for driving and parking, see the ISC website.

In the meantime, the ISC has shared a teaser film below, to whet your appetite.

Alas, the new, permanent stage for our ISC Shakesperean players has not yet passed through the multiple hurdles required to begin construction. Fingers crossed it will get final approval soon. See  Larchmont Buzz: Griffith Park to get Permanent Stage for Shakespeare Fest
