Happy Hanukkah!

Menorah at Farmers Market
Hanukkah Menorah at Farmers Market

Hanukkah begins at sundown on Saturday, December 8th – the eight-day festival of lights. According to the Wilshire Boulevard Temple website, Hanukkah celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of the pursuit of peace over violence, of spirituality over materialism.

Two events in the neighborhood of note:

Farmers Market is putting on a free Hanukkah celebration on Sunday, December 9 between 2:30p – sundown at 5p. Kids can help build a giant Lego menorah and make their own greeting cards. The renowned Zimmer Children’s Museum will offer games and crafts. The party also features “Chanukah Pajamikah” with Doda Mollie, a cantor soloist and educator. A Menorah Lighting Ceremony will take place at sundown.  You can find the details on today’s events here.

Wilshire Boulevard Temple is holding a Chanukah Sing-a-Long on Friday, December 14th at 5p. Dinner will be from 5p-6p, followed by the service with candle lighting ceremony. Latkes and jelly donuts will be served. Bring your Chanukah menorah and candles and join us for a very special evening. Reservations required for our catered Shabbat dinner…RSVP to Phil Wallace [email protected] or (424) 208-8932. $18 per person…free for kids under 12 (charge is for dinner only).
