The Mid-City West Community Council will host an event called the Mid-City West Friendly Ride on Sunday, November 9th. This event will give the community a chance to explore the plans that the Council has proposed to create community greenways for safe walking and biking in the neighborhood.

The bike ride will start at Alfred Coffee on Melrose Place at 10a Sunday morning. The group will depart and make six stops along a route that will end at Milk Jar on Wilshire Boulevard. Each stop will allow the ride leaders to discuss proposed changes along the two proposed bike routes:

  • an east/west route on Rosewood Avenue from La Cienega Boulevard to La Brea Avenue
  • a north/south route starting at Formosa Avenue and Romaine Street on the border of West Hollywood and Melrose Village and traveling south on Formosa Avenue, Alta Vista Boulevard, and finally Cochran Avenue, south of 3rd Street.

It’s not necessary to ride a bike to participate. Non-riders can join the pre-ride presentation at Alfred Coffee, the post-ride discussion at Milk Jar Cookies, or at the intersection of Rosewood Ave. and Martel Ave. at 11:15 a.m., where the proposed traffic diverter will be discussed.

Other ideas include using residential streets as bike routes and adding traffic calming and diversion elements, including roundabouts, curb extensions, and vehicle limitations.
