Ebell Food and Wine Committee plan Italian Wine and Dine event this Friday

The Buzz dropped in on a planning meeting of the Ebell’s Food and Wine Committee planning their second Seasonal Wine and Dine Pairing dinner this Friday, June 7 featuring Italian wines.

Committee members Linda Myerson Dean, owner of Wine Warehouse, Joyce Davidson, Wendy Savage, Peggy Griffin, Julie Stromberg and Ebell chef Louis Pechan were enjoying samples of two of the wines from the Alto Adige region of Italy.

“These are white varietals that thrive in a cooler environment,” said Linda Dean, explaining they come from Valtelinna, a valley in Lombardy, near the Italian border with Switzerland and Austria where the grapes are grown on steep terraces established by the Romans.

“We have selected a wine that is made by an abbey established in 1142,” said Dean. “This wine is a hybrid variety, from the crossing white and red grapes over 150 years ago.”

Chef Louis Pechan offered several suggestions of dishes to accompany these low alcohol wines with more delicate flavors.

“These dinners are all about exploring and learning, and of course, eating!” said Joyce Davidson. “Even if you aren’t super serious about wine, who doesn’t want to eat Italian food?”

The event starts at 7 p.m. with a selection of appetizers designed to complement wines followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. with additional wines. Members can wine and dine for $60; nonmembers $65. Please call 323-931-1277 extension 131 or email for reservations. To purchase online visit www.EbellEventTickets.com. Free parking is included.
