24 Hours of Sweets and Cinema on Wilshire this Weekend

This weekend could satisfy both the sweet tooth and movie buff in all of us – it’s 24 hours straight of donuts and film on Wilshire Blvd. LACMA’s free screening of “The Clock” will be augmented by a donut extravaganza, across the street and around-the-clock, sponsored by ForYourArt.

The 24-hour presentation of Christian Maclay’s “The Clock” begins at 12 noon Saturday and runs to noon Sunday. You can saunter into LACMA’s Bing Theater at any point to be part of the event, it’s first-come-first-served seating that allows people to view the film all through the day, night and following day. The film is a montage of thousands of clips from film and television history that replicate real time –  a virtual “functioning timepiece” itself. Meant to be seen in its entirety over 24 hours – LACMA gives us a rare opportunity to pull an ‘all-nighter’ in the comfort of their campus and view any or all of the movie.

Adding to the “open-all-night” mix, ForYourArt is paying tribute to LA’s round-the-clock donut culture by bringing favorite donut vendors from around the city to Wilshire Blvd, just across the street from LACMA, over the same 24 hour period. Read the complete donut delivery schedule in the link below.  ForYourArt (FYA) is organizing the adjunct donut event to bring attention to its program to encourage Angelenos to be more involved in the city’s art scene. FYA curates daily and weekly lists of opportunities to “see, collect, learn about and support art in Los Angeles.” It’s a free service delivered via email. Their itinerary for Miracle Mile this weekend is full of gallery and exhibit information that makes you believe this mid-city section of Wilshire Blvd is finally again reaching ‘miracle’ status.
