LA Zoo Docents Host Hancock Park Plant and Bake Sale Fundraiser

Join the LA Zoo Docents for a Fundraiser on June Street

The Docents of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association are hosting a plant and bake sale in Hancock Park on June 3rd from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. Whether you seek an easy-care succulent arrangement, an orchid or two, some irises or clivia or salvia, or unusual but carefree airplants, you will find a wide selection of plants to suit your needs. Or perhaps you’d like a fun gift item from the garden boutique or a delicious homemade pastry to enjoy there or treat your family for dessert; there will be lots of things to tempt you as you enjoy the afternoon in a lovely June Street garden over-looking the Wilshire Country Club golf course. There will even be used golf balls at bargain prices!

Animals depend on plants for food and shelter, so it is fitting that funds from this event will benefit the up-coming national conference for the Association of Zoo and Aquarium Docents (AZAD) that will be hosted by the docents at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Over 600 participants from all over the US and abroad convene annually to learn the latest issues and trends in educating the public about conservation, wildlife and ecology. Our Docent Program offers an annual 23 week course in zoology to volunteers who love nature and want to share and educate today’s youth about our natural world and how to care for it. If you are interested in joining our ranks, there will be a information meeting on July 28th from 10:00 to noon at the Zoo. Go to www.lazoo.org/support/volunteer for details.

In the meantime, be sure to bring a friend and join the fun at 536 North June Street on June 3rd. Questions about the plant sale can be emailed to stonehen@aol.com. Please specify plant sale in the subject line.
