Street Buzz this Weekend

There’s lots of street buzz this weekend as area groups offer some exciting outdoor entertainment.

Barnsdall Art Park has teamed up with Silverlake Wines to offer evening wine tastings in June inside the gated gardens of the historic Hollyhock House. Serving up four types of boutique, small production artsinal wines, the public is invited to bring along a picnic or sample from some of the city’s well known food trucks while during the tasting. All proceeds will benefit Barnsdall programs that bring free art classes to local residents. Tickets are $25 (including a limited edition wine glass you keep) or $35 to include the wine tasting and a partial tour of the Hollyhock House. Hollyhock is in the midst of renovation so this may be the only opportunity to get inside it for the next couple of years. See the Barnsdall Art Park site for more information and to purchase tickets – no tickets will be sold on site at 4800 Hollywood Blvd.

Also this weekend, Friday and Saturday evenings, Troupe Vertigo will be staging Nighthawks at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East (just up the 101 North before Universal Studios.)  The show is described as a “A film noir circus of thrills where the music of the night casts a sultry spell, and the laws of gravity vanish like smoke.”  Word has it that this very creative company uses music, dance, theater and circus with great imagination to put on a show not easily forgotten. With the outdoor setting and a relatively inexpensive ticket of $25, this could be just the ticket for welcoming in summer in a new and exciting way. Pre-purchase your tickets at the Troupe Vertigo website.

On La Brea Ave this weekend, local businesses are initiating a new tradition: The Second Saturdays series. Beginning this Saturday, a half dozen or so popular gourmet food trucks will be parked on La Brea between First and Second Streets from 11am-4pm. Meant to encourage foot traffic to the La Brea area shopping destination, the first 20 people to attend will receive $5 “truck bucks” to use for food and drink.
