Val Kilmer as Mark Twain at Hollywood Forever

For two more nights this week, Twain buffs can mosey over to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Santa Monica Blvd (west of Van Ness) and see movie actor Val Kilmer (Pollock, The Doors, Heat, Batman Forever) performing his own one-man show “Citizen Twain” at the Masonic Lodge. The LA Times carried a story this weekend on Kilmer’s jump into Twain territory virtually “owned” by Hal Holbrook who has been performing his own Twain drama on the road since 1954, but doesn’t seem bothered by Kilmer’s foray into Twain-mania.

Kilmer is workshopping the show in preparation for a film production of the material which is described as a ‘character study’ using a mix of Twain’s writings (essays and novels) and Kilmer’s own take on the famous American author and humorist. The material explores the relationship between Twain and Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science.

Hollywood Forever says the actor will be available after the show to chat with audience members.

The last two shows 0f the production are set for Wednesday April 11 and Thursday April 12, with doors opening at 7 pm and showtime at 8 pm. Tickets are $60, or $40 for students and seniors and can be purchased online at Hollywood Forever or at the door.
