If you are a regular at Larchmont Farmers’ Market, you’ll be familiar with the Flan King stand that is situated next to the flower stall at the southern entrance to the market. After more than four years as a regular at our local Farmers’ Market, this Sunday will be the last for proprietor Greg Beckett.
According to the original “Flan King”, the business model is changing and as a result it’s time to adapt to the changing demand. Since adding the mobile Gourmet Flan cart (pictured above), Beckett has benefited from the flexibility it gives him to reach customers where the timing is right for a delicious dessert – at local concerts, festivals and food events associated with the food truck craze. Additionally, the demand for Flan King within catering circles is growing and is pulling Beckett towards that side of the business.
Flan King’s award winning dessert is a family recipe. Beckett’s Puerto Rican Aunt Olga shared her recipe and enabled him to build a business that serves a niche here in Los Angeles. Beckett also has a thriving motivational hypnosis practice in the neighborhood where he works with people from all walks of life to help them achieve their full potential.
While you will miss those samples you’ve come to count on at the Larchmont Village Farmers’ Market, you will still be able to get his delicious flan. Just order online or call the Flan King hotline at 323-960-0770. They’ll honor free delivery in the greater Hancock Park/Larchmont Village area on orders of a certain size.
