Traffic was diverted along 3rd Street yesterday due to a gruesome accident at 3rd Street and Windsor Boulevard. According to LAPD’s West Traffic Division the driver was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition as of early Monday morning. He is expected to pull through.

The accident was originally thought to be the result of a two car drag race along 3rd Street. However, the LAPD’s investigation has determined that no other driver was involved in causing the accident. The investigation is closed.

Witnesses along Windsor Boulevard noted that the car was traveling at a dangerously high speed. It is believed the car swerved and careened out of control to avoid a pedestrian crossing 3rd Street, but LAPD would not confirm this. It appeared that the car hit a curb and over-turned, trapping the driver inside.

The accident happened just after 4:30pm Sunday. The LAPD quickly cordoned off the area, diverting both traffic and onlookers. The LAPD interviewed many people in the area during the evening, but had no further information as of early this morning.
