La Brea Bakery Moving Just Up the Block

La Brea Bakery will be moving to the NE corner of La Brea and 6th Street – just a short half block from the original location.

The iconic La Brea Bakery, one of the original artisanal bakeries to bring European-style baked bread to the west coast, has found its new home just a few steps north of the original shop. Relocating to 460 S La Brea, in the former Rita Flora spot on LaBrea at 6th Street, La Brea Bakery expects to have a smooth transition from closing the original shop on December 30, 2012, to opening the new venue on January 4th, 2013.

The original location – closing at the end of December.

“We are thrilled the bakery will be moved only a few steps away,” Jennifer Johnson, Brand Manager for Aryzta Corporation told the Larchmont Buzz in a phone interview. “At the new location we’re going to start out small,  but will expand to fill a larger space over 2013.”  The lease has just been signed so details are not yet available, but Johnson noted that the new location will eventually have indoor seating, an expanded menu, and be baking breads on-site. It all won’t happen for the Jan 4th opening, but we should see the space expand its footprint and service over the course of next year.

La Brea Bakery was purchased in 2001 by  the global baking company Aryzata, based in Zurich, Switzerland and owns other bakery operations including Delice de France, Tim Hortons, Origin, Maidstone and Honeytop. The U.S. operations for La Brea Bakery are still handled here in Los Angeles, and the East Washington Blvd bakery still provides the bakery goods for cafes and store delivery for the southland.

“We are pleased to have found such a great space, and delighted that our many La Brea Bakery fans will be able to follow us on this next step of our journey,” Johnson said. Lucky for us in the greater Wilshire, Hancock Park and Larchmont area, our famous ‘local’ bakery will still be local.

  1. Well they won’t have far to carry their loaves & wares to the new location. Should make for an easy move. Just follow the trail of bread crumbs to find their new location.

  2. I hope they do great in this new space. Still steamed at Larry Silverton, Bill Chait and Walter Manzke for making LBB move and Campanile shut it’s doors. Bunch of Scrooges
