Los Angeles Press Club Awards Spotlight

This past week the Los Angeles Press Club presented it’s inaugural Veritas Award for Best Movie Based on or Inspired by a True Story to the feature film “Spotlight,” the true story of how the Boston Globe’s investigative team uncovered the massive child molestation scandal and cover-up within the Boston Catholic Archdiocese, the Buzz learned from Larchmont Village resident, Chris Palmeri, LA Bureau chief of Bloomberg News and Treasurer of the Los Angeles Press Club .

“We’re giving out our first award for non-fiction film making, a prize we call the Veritas Award,” said Palmeri. We hope it will be an annual tradition.”

“This was a great year for films based on true stories but “Spotlight” seemed like a fitting choice for the press club; not only is it a great film but it really shows the hard work that journalists do and how that effort can bring positive changes to society,” explained Palmeri. “We were delighted to have three of real Boston Globe “spotlight” team join us on Thursday.”

The award was presented to a full house on Thursday at the Los Angeles Press Club at The Steve Allen Theater (4773 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027). Robert Kovacik, NBC4 SoCal and Patt Morrison, LA Times hosted the evening and presented the award to the real-life reporters Sacha Pfeiffer, Ben Bradlee, Jr. and Mike Rezendes, along with Producer David Linde, CEO of Participant Media, co-writer Josh Singer.

“Spotlight” was nominated for four Academy awards in this Sunday’s for the 88th Academy Awards: Best Picture, Writing (Original Screenplay) for screenwriter Josh Singer, and Actress in a Supporting Role for Rachel Adams who plays reporter Sacha Pfeiffer and Film Editing.
