The City Council unanimously agreed yesterday to rescind a law on the books for the past six months that allowed cars parked at broken parking meters to be ticketed.
So for now, feel free to park at that inoperable meter without fear of getting a ticket – at least until the City Council reviews the matter again in another six months. This may be a lackluster “gift” from the City Council however, as according to City reports, only seven of the 34,000 meters in Los Angeles were actually broken since the beginning of this year. That’s quite an incredible statistic, and is reportedly due to the new meters which are more difficult to jam and quite durable.
The fancy meters are also more high-tech, allowing users to swipe their credit cards and meter readers to be alerted when meters have expired, so they can hustle right over and write you that ticket.
