Last Thursday, local dignitaries helped Pilgrim School break ground on a new athletic field known as the “Field of Dreams” project. When completed, the field will be one of the largest open spaces in the neighborhood between Hancock Park and downtown Los Angeles, and will serve to foster the re-energized and growing Pilgrim Patriots Athletic program.

The field will be sited over a large new underground parking facility and is the first part of a multi-phase campus expansion that will eventually include additional classrooms, a new gymnasium/performing arts facility, and a new high school building. The long-term plan for the campus expansion was conceptualized by Gensler & Associates, one of the world’s leading collaborative architecture and design firms.

The Field of Dreams is the result of a campaign launched three years ago that has raised $12 million to date through the generosity of donors, including FCCLA and The Ahmanson Foundation. Pilgrim School and the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA) are interested in forming partnerships with community organizations that may benefit from the use of this new facility.

Pilgrim School, located at 540 So. Commonwealth Avenue, is an independent day and boarding school just east of the Hancock Park area. The student body of 420 students (preschool through grade 12) come from 50 different zip codes and 10 foreign countries. Pilgrim is one of the most diverse schools in California and is an “anchor” to the high-density neighborhood surrounding it.

Pilgrim School is a division of First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA).
