Beginning Monday, May 12th, there will be a crossing guard on Third Street at Las Palmas Ave. in the morning to ensure public safety for families walking their children to school. Both Third Street School and Yavneh Hebrew Academy will be served by the crossing guard.

Councilman Tom LaBonge is sponsoring the assignment of a Parking Enforcement Officer to help pedestrians walk safely across the street between  7:15 – 8:15 am every school day. Council District 4 will pay for the service through the end of the school year, and La Bonge and his team are working with the Department of Transportation , Third Street School and Yavneh Hebrew Academy to have a full-time crossing guard assigned for the entire school year next year.

  1. Hi,
Wanted to let everyone know that the HPHA has been working on this plan with the Council Office for over a year! Originally we were told we would have to foot the bill for the Crossing Guard at 3rd Street, but after we asked the Council Office to please explore all options, funds were found. The entire neighborhood looks forward to increasing the safety of residents at 3rd Street.

  2. This is wonderful news. That intersection near the two schools has needed a crossing guard for years.
