Area drivers are starting to see progress in the Wilshire BRT project along the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between St. Andrews Place and Irving Boulevard. The deep trenches that have been carved out along the curb lanes are in the process of being filled in. After a few days for the cement to cure, lanes will be re-opened – sections at a time.
The section between St. Andrews Place and Wilton Place was paved last Saturday and re-opened late in the day on Monday.

Your first sentence should read, “Area RESIDENTS are
starting to see progress” in the BRT lanes. In the first place,
Metro’s Rapids already carry more people along Wilshire at rush
hour than all the private cars put together, and the car traffic is
holding back the more important bus traffic. In the second place,
the lanes will also serve as rush hour bikeways (we’ve had this
arrangement in LA before, and it’s common in Germany; it is quite
safe in real life). These changes will open up more options for
residents to travel by, rather than coercing them into cars which
clog the streets and impede traffic. We ALL use the streets. Not
just drivers. And we ALL pay for the streets, and in fact subsidize
driving; see: http://sustainablecitynews.com/rr69.html
