John Duerler unfurled the signage on the new home of Hancock Homes Realty a week ago, and opened the doors to neighbors and friends for a party to celebrate their new location at 501 North Larchmont Boulevard.

“We are really pleased with the new building, and delighted with the foot traffic on the street,” Duerler told the Larchmont Buzz. “North Larchmont is really changing – this is truly part of the “Village” now with all the new businesses north of Beverly.” Dozens of people dropped by the new industrial-chic office on September 13th – a hot afternoon and evening – to sample food from Osteria Mamma, climb the fire engine, listen to a steel drummer, or have a drink at the impromptu bar.

The event also raised funds for Operation School Bell. “We raised $1,200 – which will help us dress approximately 12 additional children,” a spokesperson for non-profit said. “We so appreciate this. We also got a big box of wonderful toys. Most importantly we got great exposure – so many people told us they had never heard of us and what we did.  A few people were interested in volunteering or getting this service for a school in their area.”

John Duerler told the Larchmont Buzz why he decided to open his shop in the greater Hancock Park area. “It’s one of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles – the central location, the architecture, the community, the small town feel.” Duerler began his real estate career fifteen years ago in managing and investing in properties, but spurred on by his wife and his outgoing personality, moved into selling real estate for Keller Williams.  He’s now moved up the street to open up his own “discreet boutique agency” which he named Hancock Homes Realty.

The crew at Hancock Homes includes John’s wife Jill Duerler, the Broker of Record, and realtors Marc Sinnott, David Weidman and Victor Montecinos who all offer “concierge” service to orchestrate all aspects of real estate sales and purchase. “We are also a Senior Real Estate Specialist Agent (SRES)” Duerler said. “We can pick up the phone and get things done for elderly clients who need help. We can help determine where they should spend money to get more money for their property,  or what not to bother with. We walk them through the entire process in selling an estate, or the family home, if they need the help.”

Duerler has lived in the area for nine years and has two boys at Pilgrim School. He is a member of the Wilshire Rotary, and a Board member on the Larchmont Boulevard Association (LBA).

Duerler’s newest passion? Sailing. “I’m taking lessons in Marina del Rey. I already have my license to pilot a 23 footer, and will be going for the 37 footer in the future. It’s a lot of fun!”
