Natalie Cole, Grammy winning recording artist and daughter of iconic singers Nat King Cole and Maria Hawkins Cole, shared her first person account of what life was like for the Cole family in 1950s Hancock Park with reporter Marc Meyers of the Wall Street Journal.
The racism the family faced is a sad piece of the neighborhood’s past…it reflects on people who are long gone and a time that was an ugly period in our nation’s history. Families like the Cole Family were brave enough to stand up to acts of racism, persevere and pave the way for a more diverse community.
