Proposed Hollywood Freeway Cap Moving Towards EIR

There are plans percolating among planners in Los Angeles to expand the green space in the city by building “caps” over parts of the Hollywood Freeway.  According to the websites Curbed LA and Hollywood Unbound the plan backed by the Friends of Hollywood Central Park is moving ahead as the CRA/LA Board has approved $2 Million to fund the preparation of the Economic Impact Report (EIR).

This proposed “cap” would be a 1-mile long deck over the stretch of the 101-Freeway between Bronson and Santa Monica, through Hollywood – resulting in a 44-acre public park above. There is also a Downtown 101 Freeway cap project in the works (called Park 101). There’s not a lot of information on the current status of that project…

We love the green space, but wouldn’t want to travel the tunnel part of this stretch everyday – can you say claustrophobia? One more reason the convenience of our neighborhood wins out!
