La Brea Rising!

All of a sudden, La Brea is starting to look like there is a mini-renaissance going on.  The area between 1st and 2nd on the West side of La Brea is being re-developed as District La Brea – a pedestrian oriented retail space for artists, designers and retailers.

The buildings at 2nd and La Brea have undergone renovation, including a parking garage.

About midway up the block, as you head north, a mural indicates where current construction is focused.

It’s a long block – the project kind of screams for a cross walk to make it possible to access American Rag and other well established east side of La Brea shops.

Check out the Curbed LA story about this development.  The “Continental Graphics” block encompasses a 1.9 acre site.

Update:  District La Brea has unveiled their new website!  Lots of good info and a fully fleshed out vision for the project.
