Engaging Girls in Science and Math

STEM is a national effort to engage students in the study of science, technology, engineering and math. These fields of study hold the keys to solving the issues facing our planet. Historically they are also fields with very few women. Our country and our planet cannot afford not to use the talents of half our population.

Studies have shown that a lack of STEM role models for girls, is one of the chief reasons why girls lose interest in these subjects after middle school.  Recent reports indicate that twenty-first century learners must be prepared for a very different workplace than their predecessors. In fact, in order to succeed in the workplace–and in society in general–students need broader skills that encompass the entire philosophy of STEM, which comes into play in pretty much any career.

This Saturday, February 4, middle and high school girls, their parents and the public are invited toEngaging Girls in STEM, an educational morning program at the Ebell of Los Angeles that will showcase successful women in these fields.

The public is invited to meet six women  who have excelled in the area of STEM who will provide insight on the connections between STEM classes and the world beyond the school walls.

Gather your daughters, nieces and granddaughters and attend this powerful seminar.  The program starts at 9:30 a.m. with registration followed by , a brunch starting at 9:45 a.m. precedes the program which will begins at 10: 45 a.m. The cost is $30 for members/ $35 for non-members.
