The Brookside Homeowners Association has announced a meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 6:30-8pm at the Memorial Branch Library to discuss the pursuit of the neighborhood’s Historic Preservation Overlay Zone.
In the notice, the Board says it is committed to a full discussion of the HPOZ, an apparent recognition of the concerns some residents have regarding implementing an HPOZ, even though the majority of residents have already indicated their support for the preservation zone.
“It is our obligation to you, the community, to undertake and complete thorough due diligence on this matter, which involves collecting informed input from as many reliable sources as possible. It is for this reason that we continue to air such issues publicly at meetings, such as the upcoming meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 6:30-8pm at the Memorial Branch Library, 4625 W. Olympic Blvd.”

Re: Our Commitment to Transparency and Receiving as much Input as possible from You
Dear Brooksiders,
This is a quick reminder to you about your Board’s Commitment to ensuring your voice is heard as it relates to important issues such as the Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ) and other matters that may affect Brookside. These are issues that can affect our neighborhood for decades to come and, among other things, impact the market value of our homes. We should all have the chance to receive full information about such issues and have an opportunity to weigh in on the discussion. As this Board has stated from the beginning of our appointment as Board members, we are committed to transparency and inclusion as we work through this and other important matters.
We are aware that there are diverse opinions and deep convictions about the direction these and other decisions should take. We welcome robust discussion and feedback from all corners of our beloved neighborhood. However, we remain steadfast to our commitment to give as many residents as possible a chance to provide informed feedback and to hear from one another so that the issues presented are thoroughly vetted.
Various statements have been circulated that the Brookside HOA opposes an HPOZ. On this very important issue, we want to be clear: such assertions are simply premature and inaccurate. In order to make an accurate determination of our neighborhood’s position with respect to HPOZ status and the Board’s resulting recommendation, it is critical that Brookside’s residents have the opportunity to learn about the benefits and drawbacks of such a change and that such input and opinions be accurately documented.
As the Board, it is our obligation to you, the community, to undertake and complete thorough due diligence on this matter, which involves collecting informed input from as many reliable sources as possible. It is for this reason that we continue to air such issues publicly at meetings, such as the upcoming meeting scheduled for February 23, 2017 6:30-8pm, Memorial Branch Library, 4625 W. Olympic Blvd where we can communicate the results of our non-partisan due diligence inquiries and information gathering and hear directly from you.
We encourage to keep all of this in mind if you receive conflicting information from residents with strong viewpoints on HPOZ and other neighborhood issues.
