“We’re growing and learning, every single week,” Madeline Ildefonso, the Senior Librarian said about their Community Container Gardening program underway at the Los Angeles Public Library Wilshire Branch on Saturdays through January 3rd.
Participants gather from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturdays to plant seeds and seedlings, learn about compost and plant care, and talk about food and sustainability. The focus is on carrots, herbs and the “Three Sisters” of corn, squash and beans, giving children and parents a better understanding of  how food is grown, all while getting their own hands dirty in the process.
A joint program of the Friends of Wilshire Library and the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council (GWNC), the Wilshire Library Community Garden is free and provides a snack to participants.
