A big political event is planned for Saturday, March 31st at 400 South La Brea and crowds are expected to be – well, massive.
A large group of artists, musicians, writers and activists have banded together to put on a day of political and cultural celebration called All in for the 99%. The event (being billed as a “gallery”) will feature music, political activities, film screenings, and readings by actor Val Kilmer and others. One other major activity will be the taking of a “massive” aerial photo at 11 am, designed to show the size of the crowd and representing the 99%. The goal of the event is “to amplify the voices of the 99%, demanding an end to Citizens United and calling for real campaign finance reform.” Sponsoring the event are Rebuild the Dream, MoveOn.org, Civic Action, Courage Campaign, and United Long Term Care Workers. It’s free and open to the public.
The event is taking place at the Ace Museum – the giant building at La Brea and 4th that used to be a car dealership (and is now home to the giant silver Lenin head) – which has caused a bit of controversy. The event organizers say, however, that they are simply renting the space and the event is not associated with the Ace Museum or its management.
The space is large – could the crowd be larger? We encourage locals to plan for lots of people in the area all day long.
The event runs from 10:30a – 6p and includes music, art, readings, meet ups and training.
