New to the neighborhood: Snooknuk on Larchmont

As soon as the bright orange awning and sign went up, residents of Larchmont Village started asking, what is Snooknuk?

“It’s a nickname, a term of endearment,” Cheri Jacobs, owner of Snooknuk told the Larchmont Buzz about the origin of the name. “The place itself?  it’s all about love and providing kids a fun safe place to play. We have a magical indoor playground that’s designed as a park, and a performing arts studio in the back where we can offer classes in musical theater and performance.”

The idea for Snooknuk derives from a set of musical CDs that Jacobs created which teach basic life lessons to kids through fanciful musical numbers. The music explores a wide range of things like friendship and milestones, hygiene and temper tantrums, through catchy songs and lyrics. One CD is for the 10 month to 2 year old crowd, while another explores the get-ready-for-school child, in the 3-8 year old range.

“They’re not pop nursery rhymes in song,” Jacobs said. “They’re more like musical theater. A fusion of bop and dance and fun uplifting music.”

Snooknuk offers supervised play in a drop-off indoor play destination for parents to utilize while they run errands, or sit outside on the patio and catch up on emails. A day pass starts at just $7, with monthly membership to drop in anytime at $60. Classes will be taught in the dance studio in the back half of the building. Hours and classes can be found online, or drop in to find out more information.

Jacobs lives with her family on South Orange Street in Hancock Park, with her three children attending three different schools in the area including Page Private School, Third Street Elementary, and Larchmont Charter. She also teaches After School music programs in several schools, but looks forward to connecting with the community on a daily basis at her new Larchmont facility.

“I hope families will come in and try our delicious frozen yogurt, or stay and have a panini or salad,” Jacobs said. “We have espresso drinks for the parents – and free Wifi. What more do you need?”

Snooknuk also offers outdoor activities for kids on Sundays during the Larchmont Farmers Market hours, so parents can get the shopping done without towing along their tykes. They also plan to rent out the Snooknuk space for birthday parties or special events.
