Over 75 people gathered at Chevalier’s bookstore last Thursday evening for a fascinating talk and book signing with Richard Reeves, author of INFAMY: The Shocking Story of the Japanese American Internment in World War II.
Judge A. Wallace Tashima, (He is the first Japanese American to be appointed as a Judge on the United States Court of Appeals. He currently serves as a senior Judge on the U.S .Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit) and Carolyn Kubota (a former Federal Prosecutor and a senior litigation partner at the international law firm of O’Melveny and Myers)  joined Reeves for a discussion of the evacuation and incarceration of 120,000 Japanese-Americans and Japanese aliens living on the West Coast during World War II. Judge Tashima and his wife and Ms. Kubota’s father were internees.
It was incredibly powerful and moving to hear the personal stories members of the audience shared  following Reeves’ presentation. History really came alive that night at Chevalier’s Bookstore.
