As if you need more evidence that we are surrounded by amazing restaurants, you need only look at Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold’s 101 Best Restaurants – the fourth edition of which was announced yesterday and is currently available to Times subscribers – and you will find a dozen or so of the city’s best located with just a mile or two of Larchmont.  (There are even more just a bit farther away, but we have only listed the absolute closest — by our definition, of course!).
Closest, perhaps is Providence at 5955 Melrose Avenue , which is ranked number 1. Providence has earned Gold’s number one spot for the past four years.
“But once again, without a food truck, a celebrity forager or much of a presence on TV, Providence embodies what a restaurant should aspire to be,” wrote Gold about Michael Cimarusti’s operation.
Mozzaplex, Gold’s name for Nancy Silverton’s group of restaurants at Highland and Melrose, and Trois Mec at 716 N Highland were both also ranked in the top 10.
And further congratulations go to the following nearby restaurants, which were also included:
- Animal at 435 N. Faifax
- Lucques at 8474 Melrose
- République at 624 S. La Brea
- Salt’s Cure at 1155 N. Highland
- Odys + Penelope at 127 S. La Brea
- Angelini Osteria at 7313 Beverly Blvd
- Petit Trois at 718 N. Highland
- Meals by Genet at 1053 S. Fairfax
- Son of A Gun at 8370 W. Third Street
It’s nice to know we are so close to such amazing culinary experts so we don’t have to feel guilty about wanting to eat out!
The print edition of Gold’s 101 Best Restaurants will be published on Sunday.
