Redistricting Commission Recommends Keeping Most of Greater Wilshire in CD4

At its final meeting before drafting a revised draft map of proposed new city council districts, the Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission last night recommended keeping “all of the Greater Wilshire area east of Highland” in City Council District 4.  CD4 has traditionally represented most of the Greater Wilshire area, but the first draft map of new district boundaries, released on January 25, put all of the Greater Wilshire area into CD5.

In addition to moving most of the Greater Wilshire area back into CD4, the Commission also voted last night to recommend that the area represented by the Miracle Mile Residential Association (roughly from La Brea to San Vicente to Fairfax to Wilshire) be returned to CD4, which has traditionally represented it.

The second draft map, which will now presumably follow the Commission’s recommendation to return the greater portion of Greater Wilshire to CD4, will be released near the end of this month, and will then be forwarded to the City Council for its discussion, input and final approval.

Video from last night’s meeting (which ran for more than eight hours as nearly 80 proposed map adjustments, from all over the city, were discussed) is not yet available online, but will be posted soon on the City of LA Redistricting 2011 website.
